OVERVIEW:
Southern Cross Farms (SC Farms) provides horticultural management services to private, institutional and corporate investment groups with several production sites across Sunraysia, and also including operations in the Riverland, Murray Valley and Riverina regions.
Reporting to the Farm Operations Manager, the role provides an opportunity for the successful applicant to further develop their operational experience in horticultural production at a management level.
Industry training and technical support will be provided as the Company continues the development of more efficient farm production systems and enhanced compliance programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Develop strong working environment and relationships with the farm operations team to ensure effective implementation of farm operating plans and continued efficiency improvements.
Support the Southern Cross Farms Team to achieve the following:
- Ensure the profitable and effective operation and functioning of farm operations.
- Maintain compliance with workplace health and safety, HR policies, food safety and environmental objectives.
- Implementation of Direction, Strategy and Goals
Ensuring farm operations comply with all aspects of Global GAP and other relevant quality assurance programs.
Assist the team with the further development of farm management systems and quality assurance accreditations.
Actively participate in internal and external training programs in addition to further industry training and professional development
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Cert II in Horticulture is desirable but not essential, or must be prepared to work towards obtaining this or higher qualifications.
Be able to work in a team environment with other staff.
Be Self motivated and able to communicate effectively with other team members.
Formal training and/or experience in the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Experience in chemical and fertiliser applications
- Pest and disease identification and control
- Irrigation system management
- Freight and Logistics management
- Technology and Machinery
- Food hygiene
- Planning
- Communication
- Farm Safety
- First Aid
Current Australian Driver’s license is essential.
EXPERIENCE:
Practical experience with horticultural production is required, preferably in citrus, almonds and vineyard operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
A strong team environment is essential and the ability to work within a team over a wide group, and/or individually is important.

REMUNERATION/CONDITIONS:
An attractive remuneration package will be offered subject to the applicant’s experience, skills and qualifications.
The position will include a 3-month probation period unless the successful applicant is an existing employee within the SC Farms group of companies.
New employees will be required to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug & Alcohol screening.
An immediate start is preferred if possible.
