This well-established, local business has operated in the horticultural industry for over 50 years supplying both the domestic and international market with quality fruit, nuts and vegetables. Based in the heart of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, this company takes pride in the quality of their produce, which has seen an increase in demand across all lines. From this demand, a Horticultural Agronomist is required to grow the business.
Position
Provide expert advice regarding the orchard, vineyard and row crop irrigation, spray and nutrition programmes, whilst monitoring, controlling and reporting of pest and diseases to ensure plant health, yields and business profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the operations management team regarding irrigation, pest and disease, fertigation and soil management requirements
- Develop and manage farm programmes and schedules to ensure best practice
- Review tree and vine health and recommend agronomic changes to optimise health
- Conduct and coordinate crop inspections on a timely basis
- Implementation of precision farming techniques
- Maintain accurate data to allow for trend analysis
- Maintain strong industry and commercial relationships, and act as the face of the company as necessary
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in horticultural science or agronomy and will require a current driver's licence to be successful in this role.
A successful track record providing exceptional technical advice in large-scale horticultural production is essential, as is strong operational knowledge of farming processes and computer skills.
The company is seeking a highly organised individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in high pressure situations.
Confidence in the provision of sound agronomic advice and practical and cost-effective solutions will be key.
