Status: Part-time (22.8 hours per week). Fixed Term contract to 15 November 2019.

Position Overview:

This project will oversee the establishment of a Rural Innovative Workforce Fund designed to provide small grants to regional providers and employer participants to develop and trial new workforce arrangements that work in rural and remote areas, which may be generalised to other regions. 

The small grants project will stimulate and disseminate new, more efficient and effective ways for the disability support sector to engage, develop and utilize the workforce to meet the needs of NDIS participants in rural and remote areas.

The project is to also consider the needs of young people with disability, who encounter several unique obstacles in transitioning from school to the workforce.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the establishment of a Steering Group with representation from regional providers and experienced workforce practitioners to determine the grant process and selection criteria for projects;
  • Ensure the provision of grants to disability service organisations in rural, regional and remote locations in a transparent manner with processes demonstrating rigour and free from conflict of interest;
  • Support a project coach and experienced workforce practitioner to support project recipients for the life of the project;
  • Ensure each grant recipient provides a report illustrating grant activities and the impact of identified workforce development actions, innovations and interventions on the productivity, performance and/or sustainability of the disability workforce in rural, regional and remote locations in WA;
  • Finalise reports including number of applications, successful recruits, retention rate during grant period and lessons learnt; and
  • Maintain productive relationships with internal and sector stakeholders to strengthen project capabilities, participate as a cooperative team member within NDS WA and represent NDS as required.

Key Attributes

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary grant practices with a focus on the measurement of outcomes;
  2. Demonstrated experience in managing grant formation, management, evaluation and acquittal, including related documentation;
  3. Demonstrated organisational skills and a proven track-record of meeting timelines with limited supervision;
  4. Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to develop networks and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve results;
  5. Understanding of the workforce issues facing the disability sector in regional locations within an NDIS environment;
  6. Computer Literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite; 
  7. Independent travel capability.

Qualifications:

A tertiary qualification in a related discipline is desirable but not essential.
