The Role

We are seeking an experienced Domestic and Family Violence Mobile Support Worker, who will provide support to women and children escaping domestic and family violence that have been placed in motels by DV Connect while awaiting placement to a DV shelter. Support to women and children will focus on immediate safety, security and basic needs while awaiting further direction from DV Connect.

The Mobile Support Worker will also provide intake support and if capacity allows additional case work support to clients. The position involves both centre based and outreach functions involving coordinated work with a range of agency, community and staff resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritise women and children's safety through risk management
  • Ability to identify high risk behaviour and respond accordingly as per the organisations policies,
  • To act as an advocate both internally and externally for individuals and their families
  • To engage in short term solution focussed work with individuals and families where applicable.
  • Work within the principles of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act, the Residential Tenancy Act, and other relevant human service legislation to ensure that individuals and families have access to appropriate and accurate information with regard to the issues that affect their lives.

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work/Human Services or similar is an essential requirement for this role.
  • Experience in a case management approach including an understanding of the impacts of domestic and family violence and an understanding of housing and homelessness.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in assessment, crisis and trauma informed intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake risk assessments with people accessing the service, and to intervene appropriately.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of social justice.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in ways that focus on people’s strengths.
  • A demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • A current driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in working in the community sector in one or more of the following areas: domestic violence
  • Current Police Check or ability to obtain

Desirable

  • Knowledge of broader referral networks, or the ability to rapidly acquire same.

 

Hours of Work

Staff work a 7 day fortnight that includes shifts from;

12pm-8pm Monday to Friday

3pm-8pm Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays

This role includes an on-call component for which an allowance is paid
