About the Opportunity

We are looking for friendly, reliable and sociable individuals who are able to work autonomously in the community supporting people with an intellectual disability.  We have opportunities available in the western suburbs & north region covering the following municipalities:  Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay, Melton, Wyndham and Hume.

Regular ongoing shifts available through Monday to Friday. Great work life balance if you are tired of working evenings and weekends.  Would suit a person available during school hours or university students.

About the Role

The purpose of the Direct Support Professional role is to work closely with the people we support and their Support Coordinators to promote the dignity, independence, choices, opportunities, rights and responsibilities of each person.  This is achieved by extending their skills and networks within the community, and being an appropriate role model through ensuring a positive image of people with a disability in the community.

You will also be required to complete written documentation, participate as a member of a team and contribute to the development and monitoring of service users individual plans.

We are looking for positive people who would be interested in supporting a diverse range of people with many interests, including art, gardening and outdoor activities. You will facilitate community connection and allow the opportunity for skills and interests to develop and grow.

An understanding of supporting people with Autism and Applied Behaviour Analysis as well as experience in using communication devices is highly desirable, however not essential.

To be considered you must hold a current driver's license and have access to a reliable, roadworthy and insured vehicle.   Mileage is payable via salary reimbursement. 

You will also need to have a smartphone (iPhone/Android) with capability to download a software application to accept and manage shifts.

The following attributes will be highly regarded:-

  • Ability to work a minimum of 10 to 15 hours per week
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • A deep commitment to supporting people with disabilities to pursue their dreams
  • An ability to connect people with their local communities
  • Reliability & flexibility
  • Certificate IV or equivalent in the disability field (highly regarded) but not essential
  • Sound understanding of and experience in supporting people with autism spectrum disorder, communication difficulties and behaviours of concern
  • Experience in manual handling and assisting people with their personal care

Salary

Salary is based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Level 2, pay point range 1–4 from $30.70 to $33.49) hourly rate dependent on qualifications and experience.  Generous salary packaging benefits (to increase take home pay) available to staff.   

Safety screening checks

Prospective candidates will need to undergo a series of safety screening checks before appointment to any position with Inclusion Melbourne.   Inclusion Melbourne's recruitment procedures reflect our commitment to the safety of the people we support. Safety screening includes a National police history check, proof of identity and a check of employment history.  Applicants who have lived overseas for 12 months or longer during the past 10 years are required to provide the results of an international police check

You will also be subject to a Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme check.  This is a check of an individual's name against a DHHS database that records individuals who pose a proven risk to the health, safety or welfare of people with a disability.  If your name is on the list, you will be ineligible to work for Inclusion Melbourne.
