ABOUT MULTICULTURAL CHILD AND FAMILY SUPPORT (MCFS) PROGRAM

The Multicultural Child and Family Support (MCFS) Program provides a range of services to assist children and young people who have been found to be in need of care and protection to meet their permanent care plan needs - safety, stability and wellbeing through a culturally aware and responsive lens.

The MCFS Program uses a client centred, strengths-based, trauma informed framework to guide its service delivery and facilitate sustainable and practical outcomes for children, young people, families and carers; working in partnership with member agencies and local ethnic and sector partners. Its cultural lens aims to link children and young people with a bilingual worker and/or carer and/or community based matched bilingual support worker.

The MCFS Program has contractual responsibilities with FACS and regulatory responsibilities with the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG).

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

The Manager Casework leads a team of caseworkers within the Multicultural Child And Family Support (MCFS) Program to work towards achieving permanency care outcomes for children and young people.



  • Lead, mentor and coach new and experienced staff to deliver trauma informed casework practice focused on achieving permanency outcomes for children
  • Liaise with Family and Community Services and other government and NGO partner agencies in relation to referrals, case management and reportable activity
  • Ensure that case plans that are developed, implemented and reviewed, reflect the child's care plan goals and include work with foster carers, birth families and other stakeholders involved in a child's life
  • Work collaboratively with the MCFSP managers and other SSI program managers to strengthen SSI's work in supporting permanency for children and young people

SELECTION CRITERIA

Do you have solid experience in casework, OOHC and/or child protection and have you previously lead a successful team? We are looking for someone with expert knowledge of child protection legislation and OCG child safe standards with a passion for mentoring and developing staff. You will have an understanding of restoration models, guardianship and adoption processes and be well versed in liaising with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, with fluency in a language such as Arabic, Turkish or Vietnamese considered highly desirable (although not essential).

You will be skilled in managing negotiations successfully and working under pressure to achieve positive outcomes. We are seeking a resilient Manager Casework who is not only a strong leader but is also a collaborative team player who is able to operate with the highest levels of integrity. A degree in a relevant field, computer literacy with intermediate level MS Office skills (Word & Excel) and excellent time management skills are a must for this role.
