Organisation:       

Centre Against Domestic Abuse Inc. (CADA) is a community agency funded by the Queensland Government, to respond to adults and children whose lives have been impacted by domestic and family violence. We provide a range of services, including information and referral, crisis support, individual counselling (adult & children), safety upgrade, PRADO Service, and DFV court assistance. We are active in early intervention and prevention strategies through various community education and awareness raising initiatives.

Position:     

High Risk Domestic Violence Case Worker
Moreton Bay Region

Objective of the position:

The delivery of high quality support as part of the Domestic Violence Intervention Response to maximise the safety of all families at risk by providing early intervention, safety skills and planning, information and options during a critical time for change. 

This position will provide support to the High Risk Domestic Violence Case Worker to assist in the effective delivery of service under this program (P.R.A.D.O.).

Location:    

Position is based in the three locations of CADA and the various police stations within the Moreton Bay area, (Caboolture, Redcliffe and Strathpine). Worker may be required to provide services at other CADA designated locations within the Moreton Bay Region as needed.

Status of Employment:
36.25 hours a week 
6 months' probation
Position subject to funding - 12 month contract

Salary:
Level 5.1 "Social, Community, Home Care, and Disability Services Industry Award 2010"

Working Hours:

In conjunction with the Domestic Violence Unit as negotiated between District Officer in charge and Centre Against Domestic Abuse. Hours are between 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm depending on Police Station needs, Monday to Friday, except public holidays. Working hours may be extended depending on workload.

Accountability and responsibility:

This position will be located at the Pine Rivers Police Station with the QPS Domestic & Family Violence Coordinator (DFVC).  HRDV case workers can work in all locations including Caboolture and Redcliffe police stations. The position is directly responsible to the PRADO/HRDV Team Leader and Manager of the Centre Against Domestic Abuse and in conjunction with the QPS District Officers in Charge or his/her delegate. The case worker will work and liaise with the QPS DFVCs.

Qualification:  

Possession of tertiary degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar position.

DUTIES and Responsibilities:

1.         Direct Client Services

  • Establish contact with clients referred by Queensland Police Service who have given informed consent for referral;
  • Ascertain contributing factors and priority client needs;
  • Provide information on relevant internal services;
  • Provide information on relevant linked services;
  • Identify potential barriers to client engagement;
  • Liaise between linked services and the client;
  • Make follow-up contact with client;
  • Review case progress;
  • Provide additional services on a needs basis;
  • Gain feedback from client on linked services;
  • Maintain an awareness of all relevant services provided by the community sector;
    • Work effectively with diverse communities within CADA' catchment area to ensure that their cultural needs are met.
    • Provide court support to aggrieved accessing courts for domestic and family violence protection order, as required.
    • Together with DFVC identify at risk clients that may require home visits (this will only occur in the company of DFVC or designated police officer).

2.         Organisational Responsibilities

  • Gather and record information to evaluate client outcomes and service delivery;
  • Provide monthly/quarterly/annual detailed reports to the PRADO Team Leader or Manager or CADA Inc. as required by funding body,
  • Maintain accurate client records and other data as required by CADA and funding body
  • Comply with CADA policies and procedures
  • Observe professionalism in behaviour/conduct and appearance
  • Work cooperatively and supportively as a member of a team to achieve the smooth and effective functioning of the Service and the achievement of organisational and client goals.
  • Assist with the development of appropriate written resources in relation to the domestic and family violence issues and prevention.
  • Participate in CADA events, staff supervision, staff meetings, team building activities with other staff members and contribute to the overall delivery of service of the Caboolture Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc.
  • Undertake such duties as may be directed by the Manager or Team Leader.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of community education and training to raise awareness of domestic and family violence issues and to increase the capacity of the community and other workers in the region in responding to domestic and family violence.

3.         Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute towards maintaining and improving quality service delivery
  • Make recommendations and consult with other primary agency partners (QPS, Child Safety, and Probation & Parole) on how to improve service delivery based on feedback received from clients and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the research of community needs and issues relating to domestic and family violence and the establishment and maintenance of a qualitative and quantitative data collection system as required by CADA and funding bodies.
  • Liaise with CADA, police, child safety, probation & parole, and the community sector in relation to improving service delivery.

4.         Requirements

  • Undergo police protocol training;
  • National Criminal History Check, police check and police vetting;
  • Must inform CADA of any domestic and family violence applications or orders naming them as respondent (current or in the past)
  • Blue card for Working with Children (Queensland);
  • Current Queensland Driver's Licence;
  • Advance Computer literacy (particularly with Excel);
  • Certified copies of qualifications
  • Three (3) work related referees
  • Certified copies of any other pertinent documents required to meet Service Standards as defined by funding body.

Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position and a significant demonstrated experience in safety audit and case management with people experiencing domestic and family violence. This will include a working knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and the dynamics of domestic and family violence;
     
  2. Outline experience case managing high risk clients and using interpersonal skills to conduct safety plans, referrals and meet the immediate risks and needs of the client.
     
  3. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team to address the needs of police clients experiencing domestic and family violence;
     
  4. Demonstrated ability to case manage, prioritise work, risk assessment, and safety planning;
     
  5. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) including high levels of computer literacy.
     
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a sound knowledge and understanding of both cultures and societies and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society.
     
  7. Meet all additional requirements for the position.
