About the business

Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation (RDAC) was established as an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation in 1992 to improve the social, health and economic outcomes for Aboriginal people.  RDAC is a leading provider of primary health care and related social and family support services to Aboriginal people and communities across Gippsland. RDAC's services are provided at the following locations: Sale, Morwell and Drouin. RDAC's services include: general practice; health assessment and education; dental, audiology; chronic disease management; drug and alcohol counselling; child and family services; child and maternal health; home and community care; immunisation and vaccinations; social and emotional wellbeing support and counselling; allied health; client transport and corporate services; child care service and Aboriginal Best Start program.

About the role

This position will support the facilitation of the Gippsland Children and Schooling project for Aboriginal children in Wellington, in partnership with Uniting Gippsland.   This position will work closely with the Gippsland Children and Schooling Project Links worker from Uniting Gippsland to enhance and support the capacity of RDAC to deliver community development programs such as Families and Schools Together (FAST) and the Journey to Big School, into the future.

The position will also facilitate the participation of Aboriginal children and families in early years services across Wellington including supported playgroups, kindergartens and schools.  The position will facilitate a 'Swimming to School' transition group for local Aboriginal families at a Sale location in partnership with community and key partner agencies.  The facilitation role will involve enabling referral pathways and support networks that will strengthen child development and preparedness for the school system.

 

Skills and experience

Qualifications:

  • Preferred – Post-secondary qualifications in a relevant filed (Community Development, Early Childhood, Social Work, Social Planning, Education or a related Health/Human Service discipline.
  • National Police check and Working with Children Check

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability in managing a range of internal and external relationships and partnerships
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging and strengthening within the Aboriginal community
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills of a high standard
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to issues that arise within the community or workplace using community development principles.

  1. Well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people  
  2. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills of a high standard         
  3. Demonstrated ability in managing a range of internal and external relationships and partnerships
  4. Maintain accurate and concise administrative and reporting requirements to ensure that key reporting milestones are able to be met.
  5. Ability to develop creative solutions to issues that arise within the community or workplace using community development principles
