The RSPCA NSW is Australia's preeminent animal welfare organisation. We provide a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with approximately 500 staff across NSW to care for animals.
Our Sydney office is now looking for a Community Veterinary Nurse to join the Community department on a full-time, permanent basis. The Community Veterinary Nurse will work across various teams within the Community department, supporting operational plans in accordance with the RSPCA NSW strategic plan.
The successful candidate will be required to work occasional weekends and after hours, and travel interstate when necessary. This position also requires occasional interaction with children on educational basis, therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Working With Children Check, criminal background check, and referee checks.
Major responsibilities of a Community Veterinary Nurse include;
- Supporting Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Programs (ICCAHP) across NSW as an anesthetic nurse, as well as preparatory work and admin duties
- Providing support where needed for the Community Animal Welfare Scheme (CAWS)
- Working with the Training team to create and deliver accredited and non-accredited courses, both externally and internally, including specific internal training components
- Support the Education team with school and community based education through our School Holiday Programs and other Education initiatives
- Supporting the general work of the Outreach team, projects, and programs
To be successful in this role, candidates will possess the following skills and experience;
- Certificate IV in Vet Nursing (essential)
- Certificate II in Animal Studies (desirable)
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to undertake)
- Authorised Microchip implanter (or willingness to undertake)
- Cultural competency training (or willingness to undertake)
- Working With Children Check
- Current NSW Class C driver’s license (essential)
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in veterinary nursing
- Experience working with Indigenous and disadvantaged communities
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong computer literacy skills
- Empathy for both humans and animals
