Responsibilities

  • Improve the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families with the early childhood education and care system
  • Enhance the skills and knowledge of CQID Family Wellbeing Team members to address the early learning needs of children
  • Engage directly with families referred by CQID Family Wellbeing Services to assist the families to access early learning services
  • Coordinate, support and undertake early childhood education needs assessment and early childhood education planning with families
  • Improve access by building strong relationships with early childhood services
  • Adhere to required documentation and reporting standards and provide input into initiatives to achieve continual improvement of service levels and outcomes
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues, clients, agencies and other service providers
  • Monitor outcomes and issues and provide reports and advice to management
  • Work at all times to advance the reputation of CQID and undertake additional relevant duties as required

Essential Skills/Qualifications

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage and extensive community and cultural connectedness
  • Tertiary qualifications in early childhood or relevant education related field or experience appropriate to the role
  • An awareness and understanding of Indigenous communities and cultures and the historical and contemporary issues relevant to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, and proven capacity to communicate appropriately
  • Knowledge of relevant strategies, legislation and best practices including Health and Safety and team work requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office, use of contemporary office equipment and data entry.
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence, Blue card, Police check
  • First aid and CPR (or willingness to acquire during probation)
  • Ability and capacity to work flexibly in response to client needs

The Early Childhood Development Coordinator will demonstrate experience in:

  1. Delivering early childhood services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people including needs assessment and reporting and building relevant linkages/networks
  2. Strong organisational, administrative, client support and leadership capacity
  3. Effective liaison with relevant government and non-government services in support of positive client outcomes.
  4. Problem solving, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
  5. Liaison with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  6. Excellent time management and adherence to reporting and data collection requirements with the ability to multitask and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
