Starting in 1958 in a town hall in Tamworth, Challenge has grown to become a leader in out of home care and disability support. We employ over 600 people across 68 sites in NSW. We provide General Foster Care, General Foster Care +2 and Intensive Foster Care.

The role

Challenge Community Services is currently looking for a highly motivated and passionate Foster Care Case Manager/Assessor to join our Practice and Quality team.

This position is exceptionally flexible and has the ability to work from home or from either of our Challenge offices at Rosehill and Campbelltown.

We are looking for the right person who values their independence and autonomy at work, but also enjoys having the support of a team when they need it.

This role works closely with prospective carers and the operations team to support Challenge in finding engaged carers for children and young people in out of home care (OOHC). You will meet with and assess potential carers and build a strong rapport with them from the outset.

Who are we looking for? 

As the successful applicant you will have:

  • Previous experience in assessing foster carers
  • The ability to develop strong relationships and engage with internal and external stakeholders, including carers, potential carers
  • Excellent time management skills and consider taking initiative as being second nature
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • A desire to work autonomously and largely independently, although happy to engage with your experienced and supportive team when needed

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology or an equivalent field
  • An understanding of out-of-home care and the Step by Step carer assessment process is highly desirable for this position
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Previous experience in interviewing and assessment
  • Able to be flexible and to work non-standard hours as required
  • A current NSW Working With Children’s check  (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
  • Unencumbered NSW driver’s license
