SAILSS (Salvation Army Individual Lifestyle Support Service) provides support for people with intellectual and physical disabilities to live more meaningful lives. We are a non-government organisation, receiving government funding, working within the Qld Disability Services Act and the Human Services Quality Framework. About this Opportunity:
Provide support which enables participants to enjoy a caring, healthy and stimulating environment and have the opportunity to experience fulfilled lives.  Activities include the provision of problem solving support, intervention, personal advocacy, development of life skills, planning and training, all in line with The Salvation Army’s values and mission. 

The key responsibilities include:

  • Implement personal plans that have been developed and assist in ensuring the lifestyle support work is relevant to the needs of the participants and their families, support options both within TSA network and external agencies and advocate as appropriate.  
  • Provide personal care as required, according to level of need.
  • Participate in team activities, attend staff meetings and demonstrate a supportive approach to other staff members which contributes to the overall team effectiveness.

The Key Selection Criteria:

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Relevant qualifications in Community Services/Disability Support/Social work, or currently studying the same, or an equivalent combination of training, skills & experience.
  • Experience working with people with an intellectual / physical disability & an understanding of the issues they face, with the ability to encourage independence & self-determination, where appropriate, or a passion to learn & grow in this area.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours to meet operational requirements, which includes split shifts, sleep overs & weekend work.
  • A Drivers' Licence & roadworthy vehicle
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, a First Aid & Resuscitation Certificate.
  • Willing to undergo employment checks : Criminal history, Blue card, Yellow card
  • Be physically fit to undertake the inherent physical requirements of the role.
