Detail information about job Child FIRST Intake Practitioners (Full and Part time available). Terms and conditions vacancy
Bethany is a vibrant community service organisation based in Victoria that provides a broad range of prevention, intervention, support and educational services to children, young people, families and individuals.
The Royal Commission into Family Violence (RCFV) highlighted the need for children and families to be able to access connected, easy to understand services that they can trust. A central recommendation of the RCFV included the establishment of Support and Safety Hubs (Hubs) across Victoria. Hubs will be central to Victoria’s approach to addressing both family violence and child vulnerability (which may or may not be related to family violence) and will form a critical part of the broader service system network. Family Safety Victoria will oversee the establishment of the Hub network and provide local leadership, facilitation, oversight and infrastructure management in partnership with community service organisations and statutory services.
A fundamental vision for the establishment of the Hubs is for a simpler, more integrated service system that will be more responsive and better coordinated interventions for women, individuals and families experiencing family violence, perpetrators of family violence, and families who require support for their children’s care, wellbeing and development.
This government reform will bring together practitioners from specialist family violence services for women and children, perpetrator services and Child FIRST, to form a new Hub workforce in which to provide an integrated and coordinated intake and assessment response.
Position Objectives
This position is responsible for providing specialist Child FIRST Intake for the protection and safety of vulnerable children and families experiencing family vulnerability. The role is situated within the Barwon Support and Safety Hub and access points across the Barwon area. This role will provide direct service delivery in accordance with the relevant industrial instruments and regulations and agency policies and procedures ensuring alignment with Bethany’s Strategic and Operation plans.
Position Role
This Intake Practitioner role is located in the Barwon Child FIRST program area, which sits within the Access, Support and Family Safety Division. Barwon Child FIRST has traditionally provided a coordinated single entry point to access Integrated Family Services in the Barwon area, incorporating the City of Greater Geelong, Shire of Surf Coast and Borough of Queenscliffe. The primary function of Barwon Child FIRST is to undertake initial screening, intake and assessment of vulnerable children and families and to identify in partnership with the family, the most appropriate response to meet the needs of the family.
Barwon Child FIRST is a key program in the Barwon Support and Safety Hub and in moving forward, this Child FIRST Intake Practitioner role, will work within an integrated service delivery platform to undertake screening and assessment for child and women victims of family violence, vulnerable children and families, and perpetrators of family violence.
Under this new integrated practice framework, Child FIRST Intake Practitioners will perform intake responsibilities, including initial screening, risk and need assessment and planning, with an expert lens which focuses on child development and wellbeing, family difficulty and vulnerability and family violence. A referral to the Barwon Support and Safety Hub may be the best way of connecting vulnerable families to the services they need to protect and promote the safety, stability and development of vulnerable children and young people and to build child, family and community capacity and resilience.
