Life Choice Wide Bay Burnett has been providing services and support to people with disabilities across the Fraser Coast area since 1996.  We employee approximately 100 people and have offices in Maryborough and Hervey Bay.  We provide support services including in home assistance, accommodation support and everyday life skill development both on a one to one basis and through group support options.  We encourage community inclusion, respect and valuing of people with a disability, providing positive and rewarding experiences through development of an individual lifestyle plan with each participant.

Our aim is to assist our supporter-participants in their pursuit of their life choice, either in their home or in our community, to enable greater quality of life experiences.

We are currently seeking a number of people to join our participant support team.

As a Lifestyle Support Worker you will assist and support individuals in developing skills and abilities, as well as manage self-care tasks to maximise independence and confidence for the individual in their home and in the community.  Our Lifestyle Support Workers enable rather than do, to promote independence and development.

What experience and skills do I need?

To join our team ideally you'll be able to demonstrate experience and interest in assisting or supporting people with disabilities, either within a work or in your personal life. 

While experience in a similar position is highly valued, we encourage you to apply if you have a wide range of personal life experience and capabilities in everyday activities you'd like to share with others, even if you've never been employed as a support worker.

We also encourage you to apply if you have lived experience supporting someone with a disability in your personal life, or if you don't have personal experience but have already achieved your Certificate III in Individual Support.

To be suitable, you need strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities, have good judgement and be able to work with minimal supervision.  You must be someone who is emotionally resilient, remains calm under pressure and able to adapt your approach to different situations.  You are a person who is energetic, down to earth with a mature approach.  You must be able to show empathy while remaining objective.

Do you have flexible availability?

Flexible availability is highly valued, whether you're interested in working a few hours a week or would like 20-30 hours per week but happy to fill available shifts at short notice.

We offer Lifestyle Support Worker positions initially as a casual position for up to 38 hours per week.

To join our team you'll also need the following or be willing to achieve them:

  • Current First Aid Certificate and annual CPR updates;
  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability Support or equivalent;
  • Working with Children Blue Card and Yellow Positive Exemption Notice Card
