Detail information about job NDIS Mentor- Skills Development. Terms and conditions vacancy

Workways Australia is a large, dynamic not-for-profit organisation operating across Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and Queensland. We are fully committed to our vision of engaged communities; connecting people to opportunities and provide a range of employment and community services to work towards this vision. We are excited to commence trial of NDIS employment and employment related supports in 2018 in the Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama LGAs and are looking for paid casual mentors to support skills development of NDIS participants in the areas of employment, independent living, social and community inclusion. Mentors will work in the participant’s home and in the community with the participant first and foremost, but also their family members and other community members to ensure participant goals are met.

NDIS paid mentors will partner with people with disability who are participants of the NDIS and wish to build their capability and skills. Mentors will be reliable and responsible, but also creative problem solvers with a positive attitude and a belief in human rights. They will want to learn about and use best practice support methods such as task analysis and customised employment processes. Their vision will be the same as ours; a world where people with disability are fully included in Australian society with a range of strong relationships in their lives which extend beyond paid supports.

Primary Objective of the Role
NDIS Paid Mentors support NDIS participants to meet their skills development goals. Mentors deliver flexible, individual support in the community or in the participant’s home as required. They aim to build participant capacity for independence across a range of areas including; employment, in community activities, living skills and social life. A successful paid mentor fosters meaningful participation and inclusion for the person with disability and strives to reduce the support they provide over time.

NDIS Paid Mentors enjoy a high degree of flexibility and autonomy in their work with participants. However, Workways has an expectation that paid mentors will work with the same participant 2-4 hours per week in a 12 week cycle and follow the assigned capacity building plan. We want to work with mentors who believe people with disability can and do learn and that paid supports shouldn’t be the only support in a person with disability’s life.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Support NDIS participants with the implementation of their Capacity Building Plan to achieve their stated independence and/or inclusion goals
  • Inspire and motivate NDIS participants to learn new skills and tasks – do with, not for
