Why join the Army Reserve?

If you're looking for a new challenge, the Army Reserve could be for you. You'll enjoy the satisfaction of giving something back to Australia, while benefitting from:

  • tax-free daily pay
  • free healthcare and accommodation when serving
  • a flexible commitment
  • rewarding work that builds on your vocation
  • management and leadership training
  • a supportive team environment
  • friendships that last a lifetime

All that plus exciting opportunities supporting Army domestic activities, including exercises and operations, with potential deployments overseas in support of Australian and coalition personnel.

Your part-time role

The Australian Defence Force has diverse spiritual needs, the care of which is a high priority. Right now we are recruiting Chaplains in a Reserve capacity to help provide our people and their families with broad-based pastoral care.

Army personnel are encouraged to practice their own religion but it’s not always possible to provide ministry to each person’s faith at all times. So in this role you’ll administer spiritual support to all your colleagues, regardless of their religion, whilst still being responsible to your own church authorities and faithful to your own traditions.

As an Army Officer you’ll also enjoy the job satisfaction of taking on an important leadership and mentoring role, and can look forward to working closely with Army commanders providing them with advice and guidance.

So are you looking for new challenges, and feel you have the aptitude and ambition to be a part-time Chaplain in the Army Reserve? Then apply now.

Commitment

  • Specialist Service Officer Course (26 days and 16 days at separate times)
  • Serve between 20 and 100 days each year (at least 50 days preferred)
  • Fit service around your existing work and family commitments

The Army provides special resources to help you approach your employer about your ambition to serve as a Reservist.

Location

  • Training in Canberra, ACT
  • You will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live

Pay

  • Fully-paid leadership training
  • Once trained, starting package $247.07 per day tax free
  • Pay increases with rank and experience

Entry Requirements

  • Australian Citizen
  • A Minister of Religion endorsed by your denominational authority
  • The educational requirement of your faith group prior to ordination
  • At least two (though preferably five or more) years of pastoral experience since ordination

Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
