About the Role

The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with staff to develop and run the volunteer program which will assist those we support, as well as contributing to other areas of the organisation.

Organisational Context of Position

Soldier On, a leading national charity, facilitates the successful reintegration of contemporary service men and women and their families after traumatic effects of service. Established in 2012, individual, corporate and grants fundraising has funded over $6 million to physical, psychological and social services to help thousands of veterans and their families. In 2017, Soldier On expanded our mission to fill the gap of ongoing, lifetime transitional services to contemporary National Security Agency members and their families.

Nature and Scope of Position

Delivery of high quality, equitable services to National Security Agency service personnel (serving and ex-serving), and their families is core to the existence of the charity. It is through employment and educational opportunities and activities that we assist participants as they transition from service to community engagement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with staff to analyse minimum volunteering requirements and to develop the volunteer team structure, event volunteer roles and shifts, ensuring evaluation after each event and recommendations and improvements adopted;
  • Oversee and coordinate recruitment strategy, scheduling and the monitoring of progress to appropriately resource events with volunteers particularly at event peak periods;
  • Manage relationships with corporate and community groups to maximise acquisition and retention of volunteers;
  • Develop, implement and execute the volunteer supporter journey, including the development and coordination of a communications plan and online and offline volunteer communications;
  • Work closely with staff to facilitate the recruitment of year round office support and office corporate volunteers;
  • Develop an online and offline volunteer training program and materials that cater for a vast demographics of volunteers and provide online training to all volunteers;
  • Develop and manage volunteer Position Descriptions and coordinate documentation for volunteer registration and recruitment;
  • Manage the continuous improvement of the volunteer database in conjunction with internal stakeholders, and prepare updated processes and procedure documentation;
  • Coordinate all volunteers involved in event delivery, creating detailed and accurate documentation for volunteers and ensure they are appropriately briefed and that they are motivated, informed and work in a safe and cost-effective way;
  • Work with volunteers and HQ to support state and national events and identify participants who are suitable to act as volunteers;
  • Apply Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) best practice and minimise risks to volunteers by coordinating appropriate shift allocation(s), break time(s) etc.

Media and Communication

  • Provide appropriate material to the Communications Team for distribution to participants and supporters.

Governance

  • Keep effective and complete records, reporting via manager.
  • Maintain current Senior First Aid and current national police check
  • Adhere to Soldier On governance processes.
  • Maintain professional and ethical conduct while engaging with volunteers and participants and community members as a representative of Soldier On.

Assist/attend Soldier On events and activities as required

 Personal qualities

  • Ability to work with a wide range of staff and Soldier On volunteers and participants
  • Understanding of the issues faced by contemporary veterans and their families
  • Ability to work independently.
