About the company

The Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) List program is a therapeutic, court-based program developed to meet the needs of accused persons who have a mental illness and/or cognitive impairment. The program was first established at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court where it has been shown to achieve positive outcomes for program participants. With such demonstrated success, the ARC List program will be expanded to the Gippsland region from July 2018. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

 

About the role

This role provides advanced case management support to accused persons who are participating in the ARC program, supporting clients with a range of complex needs. This position has no direct reports but is required to provide coaching and mentoring to case managers. The role requires decisions to be made in relation to the case management of and risk to clients with a range of complex needs. Regular travel to courts across the Gippsland region is required. Duties

  • Provide advanced case management to accused persons with a range of complex needs
  • Provide clinical and program advice to key stakeholders through regular Court attendance
  • Access, coordinate and monitor the delivery of a range of treatments and supports for clients, including housing, alcohol/drug treatment, family violence interventions and mental health treatment
  • Identify client risks and develop risk management and/or harm minimisation strategies
  • Provide support to clients in a way that is responsive to, and inclusive of, their diverse needs
  • Support the identification and implementation of practice improvements
  • Prepare and present written court reports and provide advice or evidence to the Court
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to case managers in relation to their management of clients
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current treatment and support options for clients
  • Actively reflect upon own practice and participate in professional development opportunities


Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, welfare or another relevant field is required
  • Extensive experience in the assessment and case management of clients with complex mental health and/or disability support needs
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching health and/or social welfare staff
  • Detailed knowledge of the mental health service system and demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Sound knowledge of evidenced-informed practice models and frameworks for working with clients with complex mental health and/or disability support needs
