About the role

The position reports to the Family & Community Services Coordinator and aims to build a capacity in the Greek community about Palliative Care, via the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate education, information, resources, and dedicated support on carer needs. Some of the key tasks are:

  • Work cooperatively with the program / unit staff to deliver the service across Metropolitan Melbourne and where required regional Victoria.
  • Review current Palliative care information/material/resources to determine currency and to identify current gaps as they relate to the Greek community.
  • Develop and/or source culturally and linguistically relevant material to build a community education kit, a kit for carers and for affected persons.
  • Organise, promote and support the establishment of an annual carer retreat.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of all activities and prepare an accountability report per funding body requirements.
  • Ensure that service delivery complies with the service policy, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Build and maintain working relationships between PRONIA and relevant organisations, government and community groups and networks.
  • Develop and deliver a community education campaign with Greek/English materials.
  • Disseminate information to a range of community, health and education sectors with a focus on culturally responsive practice in palliative care.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and information sessions to community groups.

Skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a counselling /psychology field/nursing or related field.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications with minimum 3 years' experience in palliative care.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including activity management, design and delivery.
  • Experience in presentation and engaging audiences.
  • Experience in palliative care field including direct client contact and carer support.
  • Understanding of legislation, theory and practice as it relates to the provision of services.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay informed on community needs and engagement opportunities.
  • Registration eligibility with relevant body/ies.
  • Culturally relevant knowledge.
  • Knowledge of relevant community resources and services.
  • English and Greek language skills.
