The Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated individual to join our team as a Court Chaplain. As the Court Chaplain, you will be required to provide emotional, practical and spiritual support to those attending court. You will be working with a diverse field of clientele which includes clients, their families, legal workers, service providers and staff at the Courts.  The role is about maintaining a presence within the Court as well as providing a service to clients and staff. 

 

Essential requirements

  • A uniformed Salvationist of good standing within their Corps or a fully committed Christian, active and of good standing within their own denomination and willing to represent The Salvation Army accurately and with integrity
  • Be willing to work within the mission and values of The Salvation Army and  wear a Salvation Army uniform at all times
  • Certificate IV in Christian Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care (or equivalent) and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional spiritual development
  • Solid level of experience (3 years) in chaplaincy and / or pastoral care
  • Ability to relate to people with empathy and compassion, provide spiritual encouragement and support and to work with and respect the beliefs of non-Christians as well as people of other faiths.
  • High-level communication and excellent listening skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Is credible, truthful and shows integrity and recognises and respects differences in culture, style and viewpoint
  • Speaks with courtesy; conveys information effectively – verbally and in writing
  • Maintain appropriate documentation to support the chaplaincy role and reporting functions
  • Willingness to undertake a national criminal history check
  • Be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in Australia
  • Current unrestricted drivers licence

  • Feedback by staff and clients
  • Commitment to personal professional development as demonstrated by participation in appropriate forums and continuing education opportunities
