Carers NSW is the peak body for carers in NSW. We are a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers across NSW and improving their quality of life through activities, programs, training and policy advice. We advocate for carers of all ages and circumstances.
This position is responsible for designing and maintaining the Young Carer Drive Project (YC-Drive) to increase opportunities for young carers to participate in mainstream activities, employment and education. The Project Officer will recruit and match volunteer driving mentors with young carers to supervise their driving experience in order to obtain their provisional licence.
The Project Officer will design a pilot that recognises the unique needs of young carers and the challenges they have obtaining independence and mobility. They will ensure ongoing training and support of the young carers and volunteers, and connect with other support services and programs to share knowledge and increase awareness of the project.
As the successful applicant you will possess the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences or other relevant discipline or relevant work experience
- Project management experience
- Demonstrated experience working with and supporting volunteers
- Experience in the preparation, facilitation and delivery of workshops
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and written
- Ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people including carers, health professionals, and service providers
- Understanding of and commitment to young carer issues and needs
- Understanding of the requirement of learner drivers
It will be highly regarded if you also possess the following:
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
- Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector
- Experience in a similar program
