About Us

Stretch-A-Family (SAF) is an accredited not-for-profit agency that has been caring for children and young people in Sydney since 1977. We are a trauma informed agency that provides therapeutic care - Foster Care and Residential Care for 0 - 18 year olds. We have two residential programs and a foster care program all based in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

 

About the role

The part time Carer Recruitment, Assessment & Development Team Leader is a job share position, working three days a week (one day overlap with the other team leader).

This role is responsible for aspects of carer recruitment including; identifying and implementing recruitment strategies, carer training and on-boarding, reviews, authorisation and assessment and ongoing relationship management. The Team leader will deliver, and provide, managerial support to team members to ensure an efficient, consistent process that delivers a positive experience at every step of the carer journey.

12 Month Contract - Part Time Role (3 days a week)

The role will be varied and include:

  • Provide service users with support, practical advice, education and information, ensuring that children, young people and carers have a strong and positive relationship with SAF;
     
  • Undertake direct work with prospective, new and on-going carers, including accurate, concise viability authorisation and review of assessment reports, based on a thorough analysis informed by evidence based practice and professional judgement to inform recommendations;
  • Provide ongoing supervision, support and annual appraisal to all relevant direct reports and foster/kin carers.

  • Oversee all functions related to the recruitment, assessment, training and support of carer and complete carer assessments, interviews and reviews as required, including complex matters.

  • Liaise and develop partnerships and networks with internal and external stakeholders that support carers to achieve outcomes of safety, well-being and permanency for children and young people, and improved service delivery.

  • Participate in Carer Authorisation Panel, intake and matching processes;
  • Assist the Program Manager to develop unit budgets and manage the budget to ensure expenses and costs are controlled and variance explained.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies and issues impacting on service delivery for young people and their families
  • Identify, and assist in promoting SAF services at expo’s, events, venues and information sessions when required;
  • Ensure action plans identified in carer reviews are monitored and actioned by due dates;
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Carers and Peak Organisations;
  • Monitor service performance and outcomes through the collection and analysis of service data and identify and correct internal service performance issues to ensure quality outcomes;
  • Contribute to the implementation of systems improvement initiatives;

 

Skills and Experience 

To be successful in this role, you will have a:

  • Tertiary degree (or equivalent qualification) in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in the in the provision of out of home care services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Casework and working with foster carers at all stages of the carer journey and a sound  understanding of the impact of trauma, abuse, neglect, Child Protection Act, Aboriginal Placement principles;
  • Minimum one years’ experience and demonstrated ability in a supervisory role, including leadership qualities with the capacity to motivate and lead a staff team and monitor and review workload impacts;
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current Police Check.
