The Returned & Services League of Australia (Queensland Branch) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing advocacy and housing assistance for those in need, care and support to the lonely and ill, and camaraderie to enrich the lives of current and former Australian Defence Force personnel and their families. Comprising both frontline pension and welfare service delivery and corporate support services, RSL (Queensland Branch)'s head office is located in Brisbane with regional offices based throughout Queensland.

We are currently looking for a dedicated Wellbeing Officer to provide advice and assistance directly to our members, their families and the wider military community in relation to a wide range of welfare matters, including emotional, social and emergency support to veterans, often requiring visits to veterans in hospitals, aged care facilities, and those confined to their homes. The advice and assistance may require the preparation and submission of primary claims for disability pensions, and/or applications for increases to existing disability pensions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare client support plans and work with clients on outcomes based approaches to their wellbeing.
  • Monitor and liaise with Health Care providers and DVA as required for the benefit of veteran
  • Deliver programs such as Homelessness, Employment and Finance and accept referrals from the VSO network in accordance with set processes.
  • Working with the wellbeing coordinator, identify program opportunities and assist in their development and implementation.
  • Conduct home and hospital visits to veterans to ensure they receive emotional support, counselling or other assistance they need.
  • Prepare monthly activity reports and statistics for the Manager

Key Skills and qualifications:

  • Relevant TIP training qualifications to Level 2 and equivalent experience (desirable)
  • Ability to show empathy and work in highly sensitive environments and situations
  • Sound understanding of the ADF environment and its unique sensitivities (desirable)
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the veteran community (desirable)
  • Proven ability to understand and interpret complex legislation and compile in-depth research
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships both internally and externally to RSL (Queensland Branch)
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in working directly with veterans and their families
  • Queensland C class driver's license
