IBN is a charitable business operated for the advancement and prosperity of the IBN Community, the Yinhawangka, Banyjima and Nyiyaparli people. We provide programs and services for the personal, social and economic wellbeing of our members and deliver support and programs in health, education, housing, culture, enterprise development and employment. IBN’s head office is in South Hedland and we have offices in Tom Price and Karratha.
Responsibilities
The Field Officer (Education) is responsible for assisting IBN people to access education, training and business enterprise opportunities as well as individual case management. In this role you will work closely with our members to help them achieve their educational goals whilst developing effective networks with schools, government agencies, and community organisations.
Essential Candidate Requirements
- Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or progress towards the same.
- Demonstrated experience in education and or community liaison.
- Ability to work individually or in groups with parents and children to help them achieve their educational goals.
- Ability to develop effective networks with schools, government agencies, and community organisations.
- Demonstrated skills in facilitating discussions between parents, students and teachers to bridge communication difficulties and the ability to advocate the importance of Aboriginal culture in education.
- General case management and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Experience in keeping accurate records to assist in effective case management and future program planning.
- Experience working with Aboriginal people and an understanding of Aboriginal culture.
Desirable skills, attributes and experience
- Experience in teaching / mentoring children to achieve their educational goals.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
