The Organisation

The organisation is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation dedicated to improving the status, wellbeing and prospects of women and young women affected by the criminal justice system. The organisation deals with the many issues facing criminalised women and young women through advocacy and one-to-one mentoring. 
  
The Role
 
Holding a case load of around 15, you will be mentoring the young women within the youth programme and will coordinate and deliver the programme to young women aged 15 – 25 years of age; who are, have been or are at-risk of entering the criminal justice system. 

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that the young women are provided with the support that they need through the programme
  • Collection, collation and recording of client data
  • Supervision of mentoring relationships;
  • Providing on-going professional development;
  • Group supervision for mentors through monthly meetings
  • Coordinate the recruitment and training of young women and volunteer mentors.
The Successful Candidate:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Science, Social Work or the equivalent in experience - (minimum 3 years)
  • Experience working with young women aged 15 – 25 years with complex needs
  • Knowledge of the issues surrounding women affected by the criminal justice system including homelessness, mental health disorders, domestic violence, sexual assault, 
  • Demonstrated experience with working with and supporting young mothers
  • Experience in recruiting, training and supporting volunteers 
  • Ability to work sensitevly and effectively
  • An understanding of the concept of mentoring
  • Awareness and experience of working with Aboriginal women and culturally and linguistically diverse women is vital.
  • Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal
