About the opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Practitioner to join our Stronger Families program,  integrated with the following DHHS funded programs:  Families First, Youth Counselling.

Stronger Families provides a therapeutic model of assessment, intervention, case management support to enable children and young people at imminent risk of being placed in care for the first time to remain at home, or to reunify families when safe to do so. 

The role will involve carrying a caseload of families inclusive of the following service types: Families First, Stronger Families and/or Youth counselling families at any one time, either individually or co-working with colleagues. Opportunity may also exist to provide support, mentoring and some supervision of other team members.

Utilising outreach, actively engaging parents, children, young people and their families, to undertake ongoing holistic assessments and interventions, identifying strengths and risks in line with the Best Interests Case Practice Framework and other relevant professional frameworks to achieve best practice outcomes is a key component in this role.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work or equivalent including Psychology, Family Therapy, Youth or Early Childhood Development
  • At least 3 years’ experience is preferred including experience working with children and young people at risk and vulnerable families.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with disempowered and vulnerable families, including capacity to engage clients and establish effective helping relationships,
  • Work with clients to bring about change and an understanding of the issues involved in casework with children, young people and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal families.
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of relevant intervention strategies and frameworks,
  • Demonstrated ability to meet timelines, targets and other key deliverables with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and report writing skills are essential.
