An exciting opportunity exists to join Cape York Partnership as the Program Manager for the Indigenous Led Tourism Operations Platform (part of The Great Dreaming Track)

Project Background

• The role is with Cape York Partnerships as part of the Pama Futures Agenda (Pama Futures is a cohesive reform agenda incorporating Land Rights, Empowerment and Economic Development developed by the people of Cape York, for the people of Cape York)
• Tourism has been identified as a key area under the economic development agenda where significant opportunity exists
• The Indigenous Led Tourism Platform (part of the broader The Dreaming Track Project) will be a not-for-profit / cooperative which funds, incubates and supports indigenous led tourism businesses in the Cape York region
• The platform aims to bridge the skills gap which exists for potential indigenous led tourism operators by providing access to funding, project management and the marketing/admin support required to set-up and operate a successful tourism business
• Significant work has been completed to date with the intention to develop two glamping tours (a walking and an ATV experience) in remote regions of Cape York over the next ~12-18 months

Key responsibilities

• Working in conjunction with Pama Futures team to set-up the required legal entities (non-profit / co-op model)
• Working in conjunction with Pama Futures team to enter into commercial agreements with traditional owner groups/trusts to develop the initial indigenous owned/operated glamping tours
• Budgeting and project management of the development of the initial glamping tours in conjunction with the traditional owner groups/trusts
• Marketing of the tour operations through various mediums (online advertisements, tourism package distributors, Cairns area hotels etc.)
• Brand management, quality control and collation of customer feedback
• Reporting directly to the Indigenous Led Tourism Platform’s Board of Directors and the Pama Futures Economic Development Stream Lead

Basic Qualifications

• Strong team orientation and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members and manage key stakeholders
• Creative with an entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude
• Well-organised with excellent communication skills
• Ideally with experience working in the tourism / service industry in Cape York and/or previous experience setting-up and/or operating agile businesses
• Candidate must have completed an undergraduate degree

Other

• Compensation level dependent on prior experience
• Will require regular travel to remote regions in Cape York
