About the business
We are a homeless residential and outreach service that supports older men who have increased vulnerability to maintain their independence living in a community setting. We provide long term accommodation, meals and assistance in other areas such as medication and appointment management.
About the role
The role would suite a semi retired person with experience in aged. disability or other caring role.
Care workers are responsible for the creation and maintenance of a home-like living environment for the residents. Tasks include the following.
- Answer front door and phone.
- Respond to emergency situations that may arise and call the appropriate emergency service.
- Ensure the safety and well being of residents and outreach clients are upheld.
- Support volunteers in their role.
- Report any concern, emergency, incident or breach of house rules to Coordinator.
- Ensure house rules are adhered to by residents and visitors.
- Support residents who are unable to heat meals and prepare light snacks
- Socialise/interact with the residents.
Personal Care includes assisting residents with daily living activities
- Bed making and linen changes as required.
- Personal laundry for the residents as required.
Cleaning duties includes resident's rooms, communal areas, mopping floors, cleaning toilets, showers etc.
Clinical Care:
- With training provided, observe residents to self administer medication from blister packs and observe residents to self administer Insulin or other medication such as inhalers.
- Maintain appropriate documentation.
- Ensure that all resident records are accurately maintained.
- Complete tasks on the Task List.
- Attend staff meetings (can be via phone).
Where appropriate, duties may also be carried out with outreach clients.
SLEEPOVER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spend the night at The Way Community (Staff sleep in the dedicated Sleepover room and have access to a dedicated bathroom.)
Skills and experience
Caring and non-judgemental attitude is a must. And a willingness to become involved in tasks that may be messy or unsightly.
Good communication skills are essential particularly around clear and con-confrontational communication with people who may experience cognitive impairment, behavioural issues, drug and alcohol dependency, etc.
A Police certificate and First aid training are a requirement of this role.
