A little bit about ACSO

The Australian Community Support Organisation (ACSO) is a dynamic, values driven NFP, focused on partnering with Government and the community to co-design services that create real social change. We’re an organisation with a bold vision to create a safe and inclusive community freed of crime and prisons. It’s our goal to reduce re-offending and our mission is to help people transition from prison, assist them in the community, stop them from re-offending, and intervene to divert others from committing crime.

The program and the role

The ReStart program aims to address the diverse and complex needs of short sentence (i.e. three months or less, including those on Community Corrections Imprisonment Orders) and unsentenced prisoners by providing pre-release support and assertive outreach support, which promotes sustainable links and reintegration within the community. The program will prioritise people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, youth, and those with a cognitive background. Responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Restart Program, the Team Leader leads and manages their team’s performance through monitoring work quality and output, team and individual staff development and utilising their subject matter expertise to provide content support and advice. The focus of a Team Leader will be assisting their teams by assessing and allocating participant referrals, building and delivering a high-quality service and provision of supervision to develop their teams' emotional intelligence and resilience, whilst developing and maintaining skills to support this participant group.

Program delivery commences 1 September 2018. In order to on board and train staff, you will need to be able to commence employment early (latest, mid) August.

What we’re looking for?

  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant or equivalent experience with at least 2 of those years in people management
  • The ability to enter and work in a prison environment
  • Prior experience and success in leading others in the delivery of program services
  • Demonstrated communication strengths, particularly in the areas of interpersonal sensitivity and communicating sensitive information effectively
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to build and foster a high-performance team culture
  • A thorough understanding of the current trends, practices, policies and legislation pertaining to their program area.
  • An extensive background working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people will be highly regarded.
