About the opportunity

What is Ability Links?

Ability Links NSW supports people with disability, their carer’s and families to access supports and services in the local communities. By linking people with a disability into the community, we empower them to live their life their way and achieve personal goals.

Linkers enable families to advocate on behalf of their children and families with the NDIS and related Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) service providers. You will focus on a person centred/ approach to achieve goals and aspirations.

An exciting opportunity exists for Aboriginal Early Linkers to join our team on a full time fixed term contract based out of Penrith. The contract is due to end June 2019. Reporting directly to the Coordinator, you will be required to work with children, their families and carers from birth to 8 years of age with pre and post diagnosis of disability or developmental delay to develop early intervention strategies.   Key responsibilities may include:
  • Work to build capacity in the community by educating and creating awareness
  • Build positive partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, external organisations and other service providers
  • Promote inclusiveness
  • Work towards positive outcomes for families and community members.
  Essential Criteria
  • This position is an Identified position. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture and a strong commitment to working with Aboriginal people and communities.
  • Lived experience or knowledge and understanding of the impacts of disability on Aboriginal families and communities.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and a clear understanding of the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) framework in NSW.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure cultural consideration of the needs of people and families from Aboriginal communities in service access and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of a person-centred approach to service provision, social inclusion and community development opportunities.
  • Proven experience in project work, community event management or community development
  • Experience working in Community Service sector or equivalent.
  • Well-developed communication skills with experience using technology including data entry, outlook and email.
  • Self-motivating and ability to work unsupervised with sound time management skills with a willingness to travel to cover large geographical areas.
