About the scholarship
The Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science, Swinburne University of Technology has received Australian Research Council funding for a project investigating the validity of violence risk assessment instruments across justice-involved culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. Violence Risk assessment instruments are necessary to reliably and validly evaluate and manage a person’s level of risk for future violence. The instruments are widely used in correctional, medical and legal settings and hold an influential role in medico-legal decision-making.

A PhD scholarship is available for three years under the supervision of Dr. Stephane Shepherd. The candidate will have the opportunity to conduct both lab and field research and employ quantitative and qualitative analyses. They will also have access to a world leading research environment at the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science.

Skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
• A Bachelor degree honours and/or a research master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the research topic (i.e., psychology, criminology, psychiatry, public health, law, nursing or equivalent)
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated person who meets the academic requirements for enrolment for the PhD degree at Swinburne University of Technology.
• Academically strong candidate with good communication skills and the capacity to work independently and within a team.
