THE ROLE

Samaritans are currently looking for an energetic and experienced Full Time Case Worker to join our Permanency Support Program team working from Newcastle.
This exciting position involves working with children, young people and their families to support a loving, permanent home for life, creating strong family connections.  The Permanency Support Program team are committed and compassionate, working with families to support successful restoration into family and culture and to provide ongoing support for families.
Working collaboratively, this role will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and maintaining a safe environment for children and young people by ensuring regular home visits;
  • Sharing information and encouraging participation from children and young people in case planning and decision making at an appropriate level;
  • Using and creating opportunities to develop, capture and record Life Story Work;
  • Undertaking assessments and investigations to identify and address any safety concerns;
  • Facilitating, and participating in case conferences and meetings, ensuring the child’s needs are paramount and promote the values of transparency, engagement and empowerment;
  • Implementing the case planning process effectively;
  • Following the principles of Family Finding;
  • Effectively maintain accountable systems including the administration of children and young people records, case notes, progress reports, audits; and
  • Understanding and complying with relevant standards, legislation, and requirements.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are a professional individual who is experienced, vibrant and passionate about facilitating positive relationships between children/young people and their families. To be successful you’ll also:

  • Be non-judgmental and have an empathetic approach;
  • Possess interpersonal skills that provide the basis for a high standard of honest, respectful conversations, effective negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution;
  • Have the ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality including records of children and young people and their families, team and organisational discussions; and
  • Have a strong understanding of the relevant Government legislation applicable to the Permanency Support Program.

THE ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification (minimum Bachelors Degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science, Early Education or similar. Applicants who are working towards this qualification will be considered if they have minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the child protection framework within NSW;
  • Knowledge and understanding of child behaviour and development and the impact of trauma on children and families;
  • Have case management documentation skills of a high standard;
  • Senior First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain); and
  • Completion of a pre-employment medical, National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, and hold a valid drivers licence.
