An exciting opportunity has arisen to join HWNS as a Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner working as part of a multidisciplinary team providing services to NDIS participants. The position reports to the Manager Enhanced Supports, providing support to customers across Southern Queensland and the Sunshine Coast. Additionally, support may be provided to other customers of HWNS in Queensland where needed and as such, travel to other regions of HWNS may be expected on a regular basis.

The location:

This position provides support to customers living in Southern Queensland and the Sunshine Coast and may be located in one of our office locations in these areas.

Essential to success in this role is:

  • Ensure quality behaviour support provision to individuals with varied support needs inclusive of intellectual, psychiatric, physical or sensory disability;
  • Commitment to work with & promote person centred values and deliver person centred outcomes
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary model with a range of allied health professionals to provide a holistic and integrated approach to supports.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop strong collaborative relationships with government and non-government service providers for ongoing support.
  • A knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
  • A high level of initiative and sound practice judgement.

Essential Criteria

  • Hold a recognised qualification in appropriate allied health discipline of Psychology, OT, Speech Pathology, Nursing (with relevant experience), Social or Health Sciences; and meet the eligibility requirements for membership of the relevant Australian professional association OR have completed or be currently completing the Positive Approach to Behaviour Support Core Standard including Appraisal Process (FACS); OR nationally recognised competency CHCDIS006 - Develop and promote positive person-centred behaviour supports and have a minimum 2 years' experience in the delivery of behaviour supports
  • Has sound knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support principals including functional behaviour assessment, intervention and service delivery practices, and Restrictive Practice Authorisation processes, legislation and requirements
  • Knowledge, understanding and commitment to the policies, procedures and delegations of HWNS, together with relevant legislation (e.g. Disability Services Act 1993, Guardianship Act 1987, Disability Service Standards, NDIS National Quality and Safeguarding Framework 2016)
  • Experience in delivering and evaluating relevant training for support staff and hold a Certificate in Workplace Training and Assessing or prepared to undertake this training
  • Understanding of the impacts of trauma and trauma-informed practice principals
  • Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skill, including proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite.
  • High level time management and case load management skills
  • An ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Current driver's licence and a willingness to drive
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children Check and Police Check clearance

Desirable criteria:

  • Substantial experience working with individuals, families and children with a disability, and an understanding of trauma-informed practice principals.
  • Strong experience in planning, implementing and reviewing training and support plans for customers, support staff, families and carers in positive behaviour supports and specialist topics as required.
  • Experience and qualifications in delivering nonviolent crisis intervention and response training (e.g. MAYBO; PART) or willingness to obtain.
