The Placement Support Worker ensures that appropriate foster care placements are provided for children 0-18 years of age who are referred by the Department of Child Protection, and contributes to the support of foster carers, enabling them to provide out-of-home care that is consistent with the Standards of Alternative Care in South Australia.
Key responsibilities:
- Facilitating the appropriate and timely placement of children and young people in accordance with current policy and procedural requirements, funding and licensing agreements.
- Facilitating the support and supervision of caregivers in the local region.
- Liaising with the Department for Child Protection and other key stakeholders on the delivery of placement services.
- Assisting in the development of individualised Learning and Development Plans for carers, and contributing to their ongoing training and skill development
- Assisting with the development and delivery of a variety of carer support options and resources that benefit children & adolescents in care.
- Preparing reports when appropriate.
- Ensuring that accurate and timely statistics and records are kept and maintained.
- Modelling professional work practice.
- Promoting and advocating for positive change.
- Ensuring personal adherence to ac.care’s values, conditions of employment and organisational policies and procedures.
Key essential selection criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualification; or, relevant vocational qualification with substantial relevant experience, expertise and competence attained through previous appointments.
- Experience working within the community services sector.
- Competence in case noting
- Excellent communication skills (listening, written and verbal)
- Advocacy experience
