An exciting opportunity exists to contribute to a new era in service delivery for Minda.

Minda provides accommodation, respite, employment and lifestyle services and support to over 1,700 people with an intellectual disability. Minda’s vision is to maximise choice and inclusion for people with a disability to achieve their aspirations.

Minda currently has a vacancy for a Support Leader to work in one of our Supported Independent Living areas located at Brighton North. This role operates as part of Minda’s Supported Independent Living Services Department with the main purpose being to provide support to people with intellectual disability, maximise choice and inclusion to achieve their aspirations and goals, optimising a person-centred approach. This is a full time permanent role, covering a seven day a week roster and you will be required to provide direct support. 

The Support Leader role will primarily be responsible for the mentoring and leadership of support workers in assisting individuals to achieve their full potential. You will be required to prioritise and coordinate the day to day tasks within the accommodation area, as well as facilitate linkages with the local community to maximise individuals’ quality of life. You will show a strong sense of respect for the rights of participants and build community inclusion. This position is based on our Brighton site and in this unique role you will oversee the delivery of physical, emotional and behavioural support to a customer(s) with complex and challenging behaviour. You will be required to liaise with allied health services and significant others. 

In addition, our Support Leaders must:

  • Ensure the effective communication within the team is maintained at all times and address any conflicts in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Assist in the recruitment of team members within your area of responsibility, including the interviewing, assessing, induction and training of new employees.
  • Contribute to participants person centred lifestyle plans and maximise opportunity for participants to achieve their life plans/goals.
  • Assist participants to maintain positive contact with families and friends and to access local services, clubs and social activities.
  • Manage finances within cost centre budgets for general purchasing/expenditure; petty cash and incidentals. 

To be successful you will have:

  • Certificate 4 Disability or equivalent as a minimum
  • previous supervisory experience
  • experience supporting people with disability and complex challenging behaviours
  • a current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • a current and valid unrestricted South Australian Driver’s Licence
  • a current DCSI Child clearance
  • Experience supporting people with acquired brain injury and mental health issues is desirable but not essential.
