A position has become available for a Community Mental Health Worker to join The Carers Offering Peers Early Support (COPES) program which will be primarily based at St. Vincent’s Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, the Clarendon Clinic and the Hawthorn Community Clinic. This collaborative partnership between St. Vincent’s Mental Health Program and Mind Australia aims to deliver support, information and referral to carers and families whose relative or friend is in receipt of mental health support within the mental health catchments areas of the City of Boroondara and the City of Yarra.

 

In this role you will:

  • work part time, 15.2 hours per week on a fixed term contract until 30 June 2019
  • utilise your experience of being a family or carer for someone who has mental ill health to provide specialist services to clients
  • provide telephone and face-to-face support to family and carers to reduce isolation and improve knowledge of the mental health system
  • be responsible for working with staff across the clinical mental health service to increase awareness of family and carer needs
  • provide appropriate knowledge of referral services, including Mind services, external agencies, carer support groups and education
  • build relationships and work collaboratively with carer organisations and clinical services to enhance service reputation and referral rates

You will have:

  • tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field as designated by Mind
  • a personal experience of being a family or carer for someone who has mental ill health; provided supported and helped with gaining access to services
  • significant knowledge of referral services, external agencies, carer support groups and education
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
