disAbility Living Inc has provided supported accommodation for people with disabilities in South Australia for over 30 years. We believe in the inherent right of people with disabilities to have choice and control over their lives & support their right to be active citizens & participate fully in community life.
You will work in a children's service team that provides children and young people with disabilities a safe environment. You will support their learning and development through play, community activities and tailored learning programs.
Along with demonstrated experience providing support to people with disabilities you will have the following skills and attributes:
- Be passionate, positive and have experience supporting clients who have complex behaviours.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Ability to establish rapport with children or young people and their families.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record management and maintenance.
- Commitment to providing a professional, safe and secure learning opportunity for children and young people to effectively progress.
- Must be able to work as a team and also in isolation.
- Must have access to your own vehicle.
- Flexibility to work over a 4 to 7 day roster and the availability to work overnight shifts or attend any training or meetings as required.
- Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme will be essential.
- Hold a current Senior First Aid, Manual Handling, Assist with Medication, Continence Care/Infection Control certificate and DCSI "Child Related" clearance.
- Child Safe Environment training will be highly regarded.
- It will be advantageous to have a background in outdoor beach and swimming activities
You will work closely with children and young people with disabilities to holistically meet their needs & improve their participation and quality of life. You must believe in children's rights and display values that match our CREDIT culture; Communication, Respect, Empowerment, Dignity, Insight & Trust.
We will consider applications for employment from current students who are in their second year or above in a Bachelor of Developmental Education, Social Work, Speech Pathology, Psychology and Occupational Therapy.
