Our large NSW State Government client supports vulnerable children and families to participate in social and economic life to build stronger communities. The service seeks to improve the psychological well-being and decrease the severity of trauma symptoms of children and young people in care, whilst promoting placement stability. They are currently seeking a Clinical Consultant with substantial experience in child and adolescent development and mental health related work to join their team in Penrith. This role is an estimated 6-month temporary contract, with a strong potential to extend.  

Reporting to the Service Manager you will be responsible for implementing clinical treatment modalities: Trauma Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Tuning into Kids/Teens.

Responsibilities will include however will not be limited to the following –
  • Undertake comprehensive behaviour assessments to design matching behaviour support plans in consultation with the client, local clinic staff, caseworkers, carer/families and then implement these plans
  • Facilitate clinical treatment and case management to children and adolescents with complex needs reflecting a history of developmental trauma
  • Build rapport, conduct meetings to gather information on various aspects of the client and providing recommendations
  • Provide high level clinical record documentation including reports, briefings, medication charts and orders to ensure database integrity is maintained
  • Ensure the management, protection and security of information is in accordance with departmental policies and ethical standards for record keeping, privacy and confidentiality
  • Establish and maintain positive stakeholder relationships, ensuring effective communication between the services
  • Attend team meetings and peer reviews as directed by the Director of Psychological and Specialist Services
  • Participate in Departmental training programs and initiatives to enhance personal development
  • Adhere to Departmental policies and procedures including Code of Conduct.
To secure this rewarding assignment you will have the following –
  • Valid WWCC and CRC or willingness to obtain them
  • Must be either a Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, Registered Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, Bachelor in Social Work and Membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or Tertiary Qualifications in a related field.
  • Previous experience working within complex environments
  • Impeccable interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to provide high level reports, briefings
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with an aptitude for learning
