Through our Inclusion Support and Disability initiatives we proudly provide support and service to children and young people within our community with a disability, in addition to our initiatives to support diversity and inclusive practices in all of our OSHC services.



WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB

You will be working alongside our OSHC Coordinator and Educator in the YMCA Mitchelton Specialist or Aspley Specialist OSHC service, supporting day-to-day practice in the service. 


Some of the key responsibilities of your role include:

  • Ensure high levels of appropriate care, support and age appropriate activities and OSHC programs implemented for children;
  • Develop and maintain respectful, inclusive, supportive, collaborative and responsive relationships with children and their families;
  • Promote an understanding of the Disability Services Act 2006, the National Standards for Disability Services and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Qld) within the team;
  • Act as mentor, coach and trainer in appropriate methods and techniques for other staff;
  • Ensure completed documentation demonstrates that service procedures are followed.

This is a casual position, working approximately 10 - 16 hours per week during afternoons only and additional hours during vacation care time.

To be considered for this opportunity you must be able to meet the following
 

Selection Criteria:
 

Essential:

  • Certificate IV in Disability or other relevant qualification and/or equivalent support work experience;
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of appropriate curriculum frameworks and an ability to implement a high quality educational program;
  • A working knowledge of the Disability Services Act 2006, National Standards for Disability Services and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Qld);
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;
  • An ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
  • Understanding of the YMCA values and customer service standards and ability to demonstrate these in your work;
  • Current Blue Card, First Aid, CPR, Asthma Management and Anaphylaxis Management, or willingness to obtain
     

Desirable:

  • Experience in the education and care of school-aged children;
  • A working knowledge of the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010, the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011 and the National Quality Standards.
