About the role
Based predominantly at Townsville Corrections the role will work closely with the Red Cross Regional Service Team and National Community Programs to develop and pilot the Community Based Health and First Aid in Action Prison Program (CBHFA).
The pilot will establish the platform for future state-wide roll out of the CBHFA program and aims to provide evidence and learnings that can be utilised across Australia. The role will work with prisoners engaged as special status volunteers in the corrections setting; providing structured training and ongoing support to undertake improvement initiatives identified by prisoners within their communities.
Additionally, the role will provide sound advice, leadership and expert knowledge of the justice sector and play a lead role in project management, program development, delivery and review. The role is responsible for the development and maintenance of internal and external networks and collaborative partnerships that will drive the pilot of CBHFA.
What you will bring
- Proven leadership experience and skills in forging a team-based approach and providing direction, supervision and support to paid staff and volunteers
- Knowledge of and experience working within community development context, preferably in the justice setting and ability to ensure compliance and continuous improvement of relevant legislation, industry standards and best practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of action learning approaches in order to enhance the development of best health and wellbeing practice in addressing female prisoner’s specific physical, cultural and social needs
