Advocacy Community Development Officer
COTA NSW is developing an advocacy program that engages older Australians to advocate on issues that affect older people. We need someone with experience in volunteer management, with an understanding of policy and advocacy, and a passion for social justice to join our team and help expand our organising program.
The organisation
COTA NSW is the peak body representing the needs and interests of the diverse range of older people in NSW.
We are an independent, consumer-based, non-government organisation working to ensure that the voices of older people are heard by politicians, policy makers, service providers and the media.
The role
The Advocacy Community Development Officer will work with COTA NSW supporters and stakeholders to develop our organising program.
Day to day you will recruit, train and manage volunteer advocates across NSW, consult with older people about their issues and concerns, and work with our CEO and Policy Officer to develop advocacy strategies to make NSW better for older people.
This is a part time role (22.8 hours per week) and will be paid on the SCHADS Award Level 6.1.
Your skills
Do you like working with and developing people?
We need someone who has an interest in politics and policy, and who is committed to achieving a society where older people are respected, consulted, included, represented and heard.
You will have had experience in training and managing volunteers, have excellent organisational skills and be a good communicator. Experience working collaboratively in a small team would also be great.
It would be excellent if you were experienced in working with a range of digital tools and systems, but this isn’t essential – we think as long as you have basic digital literacy, this is something you can learn!
