About the Service

Rosalie Rendu Volunteer Home Visitation based in Macquarie Fields and is part of the Wollongong Diocesan Central. The people who access the home visitation program are residents who live on the Macquarie Fields social housing estate, people who are socially excluded and unable or don’t access other community services.  This is a unique neighbourhood support program providing support and advocacy for people experiencing disadvantage and isolation. 

The Role

The Support Worker of the Rosalie Rendu Volunteer Home Visitation Program is responsible for supporting the Rosalie Rendu Program Coordinator, the Society’s network and its key community partners, in developing opportunities to promote and develop the volunteer home visitation program in the Macquarie Fields community.  This role is ideally suited to someone with with mental health experience and qualifications or completing social work studies.

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Assist with and conduct home visits and support volunteers within the program.
  • Encourage the volunteers, individuals, groups and organisations in local communities to participate and support the volunteer home visitation project.
  • Work in partnership with St Vincent de Paul conferences in the Macquarie Fields district on family referrals and membership skill development.
  • Assist in the facilitation of informal learning experiences for volunteers.
  • Maintain partnerships with organisations and individuals interested in working together on the volunteer home visitation program.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator for program and volunteer development.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in the development of resources for the project and in the publication of material which documents and evaluates the home visitation project.

To be successful in this role, you will need

  • Qualifications (or completing qualifications) in Community Welfare / Social Work
  • Understanding of Mental health issues associated with disadvantage and isolation.
  • Knowledge or experience in working directly or indirectly with vulnerable individuals and families who experience marginalisation and social exclusion.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Effective and respectful telephone manner.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and the internet.
  • Knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act.
  • Experience in working with volunteers.
  • Commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
