We are currently seeking applications for a Project Manager– Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services (MHAOD) for an upcoming role in the Gladstone region.
This role is a part-time position based in Gladstone Queensland working Monday – Friday. Occasional out of hours/ week end work may be required.
The role supports ongoing work of the Here for Health committee and is funded by the Rio Tinto Gladstone Community Fund.
Since 2013, Rio Tinto has facilitated the Here for Health committee of local health services and community leaders to identify opportunities to improve health services in Gladstone. The Here for Health Committee established a Here for Health MHAOD subcommittee whose aim is to establish an integrated and sustainable service that adequately meets the mental health needs of the Gladstone community and explore an effective system that links stakeholders to service provision.
To be successful in the role you will require a hands-on attitude and a strong drive to be an integral part of shaping the health services available to the Gladstone community.
Responsibilities will include:
- In consultation with the community and with the Here for Health MHAOD subcommittee:
- Understand the baseline data and information already available on services and health pathways, including current resource capacity, in order to identify opportunities for integration and identify improvements for future service provision.
- Identify core gaps, any duplication and issues within MHAOD service provision in the Gladstone region with strategies (actions and timings) by which to address these.
- Develop a proposed integrated strategy for how MHAOD services within the Gladstone region could be better and more effectively integrated.
- Ensure health service providers such as GPs are aware of and can access coordinated and integrated services on behalf of their community.
- Identify, scope and recommend viability of outreach services, including this in the integration as appropriate.
- Establish a system to ensure up-to-date information on available services is maintained.
- Support Here for Health committee to advocate to Government for service improvements.
- Develop philanthropic relationships in order to acquire funding for services.

- Community engagement experience– ability to build networks and relationships, to advocate, negotiate, listen and to communicate effectively
- Strong project management skills with the ability to identify opportunities and think strategically in relation to system design and integration
- Be a team player who is also able to work autonomously and proactively, and demonstrate sound time management skills
- Computer literacy – MS Office (proficient with Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and data analytical skills
- Sound judgement, decision-making and problem-solving along with effective time management and planning skills
- A current driver’s license with an ability to travel within the region for work (own car is required).
Desirable experience:
Current knowledge of the Gladstone community and prior health sector experience/knowledge.
Previous professional writing experience with ability to generate significant capital funding, (grant funding submission experience will be considered favorably)
The successful candidate will be required to obtain clearance of a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screen along with holding/applying for a Federal Police check/blue card.
This role is a part time fixed term contracting position working approximately 25-30hrs per week with the opportunity to develop into additional hours subject to project requirements.
