Role Overview:

The Community Connection Coordinator is responsible for working together with people with disabilities, families, carers & communities of various cultural backgrounds in order to help them plan their futures, build their confidence, and build their strengths & skills in developing their support networks within their own communities.  This is a fixed-term full-time position (35 hours a week) until 30 June 2020.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

·       Providing exceptional customer service in assisting people living with disabilities, their families & carers of a CALD background with support & planning;

·       Implement community development & community partnerships with individuals, families, carers, local organisations to build a more inclusive and accessible community for people with a disability of diverse backgrounds;  

·       Provide high level of administrative support with the provision of maintaining records & other related processes;

·       Work collaboratively with team members & contribute to the development of self & others within the Aged Care & Disability Services Team;

·       Maintain high level of professional communication with all internal & external customers;

·       Adhere to Policies & Procedures related to the work being undertaken in order to ensure own & others safety in the workplace;

 

Essential Criteria (needs to be addressed on a separate document)

 

·       Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience in human services or community development;

·       Demonstrated understanding of the needs and challenges affecting people with disabilities, their families / carers of diverse backgrounds  

·       Ability to apply cultural considerations to meet the individual needs of people with disabilities and their families / carers

·       Knowledge and understanding of person-centred practice to support people with disabilities and their families / carers

·       Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision, manage a variety of tasks and display personal drive and integrity

·       Well-developed negotiation & facilitation skills;

·       Experience or understanding of the benefits of involving people with disabilities in their local communities

·       Lived experience or awareness of the impact of disabilities upon individuals, families, carers and the community of diverse backgrounds

·       Willingness to travel and work flexible hours in a range of locations as required

·       Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with a broad audience;

·       Excellent computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office programs, electronic mail and calendars;

·       Current Driver's Licence and  access to a fully registered motor vehicle;

·       Satisfactory Australian Federal Police Check & Satisfactory Working with Children Check;

·       Bilingual skills desirable – Arabic, Hindi & Dari preferred.
