Detail information about job Lead - Advocacy Development. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Establish an advocacy business from the ground up
  • Work with a small team of professionals
  • Disability advocacy

IDEAS supports people with disabilities Australia-wide by providing quality independent information through its websites, a telephone support line, training, consulting, print publications and community events.

One of Australia’s most significant social reforms has resulted in major changes in the Disability sector. Ensuring people with disabilities, their families and carers, have access to information, and are connected to exercise their life choices becomes even more important; and IDEAS is well positioned to be the premier, national provider of independent disability information.

The coming year will be one of change, growth and expansion and we are seeking additional staff to join us. If you are committed to social justice and equity, and understand the needs and rights of people with disability, we are keen to hear from you. As we are a small organisation operating in a rapidly changing environment, we value team-work, initiative and adaptability.

We are seeking a seasoned disability advocate to establish the possABLE Advocacy business for the organisation. In this role you will lead a small team of advocates who provide support to people with disability. You will be required to establish processes, systems and activities for the business, ensure appropriate resourcing, team development and skill development. You should also expect to be providing some direct advocacy services.

You will have:

  • extensive experience in disability advocacy;
  • a strong commitment to the empowerment of people who are disadvantaged and have special needs;
  • a comprehensive understanding of the Disability sector, including relevant regulatory requirements, the NDIS and the UNCRPD;
  • an ability to develop and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders;
  • high level communication, influencing and negotiation skills;
  • leadership and management skills;
  • an ability to establish plans, processes, systems and programs to support effective advocacy.
  • tertiary qualifications.

This is a unique opportunity to establish an advocacy service from the ground up, and to work with a small, multi-disciplined and professional team making a contribution to the empowerment of people with disability.

The position is full-time, based in Campbelltown, for one year (with the possibility of extension). Regular travel will be required. SCHADS Award provisions apply, with generous salary packaging available.

If you would like to discuss this role further, please contact Marlissa van Heerwaarden on 0427 011 988.

Applications (including Resume) detailing your skills, qualifications and experience should be emailed to [email protected] by 20 July 2018.

As a member-based organisation, led by people with disability, IDEAS encourages applications from people with disability.
