Summary of program and its objectives:

The Research and Policy Centre is one of eight divisions at the Brotherhood of St Laurence (the Brotherhood) and has responsibility for seeding new approaches to social policy, programs and practice that help shape a better future for individuals, families and communities experiencing poverty, inequality and social exclusion.

The Energy, Equity and Climate Change (EECC) Team undertakes high-quality policy and research, including delivering innovative trials, with a view to enable people on low incomes to respond to the effects of climate change and energy stress. We want to ensure that energy remains affordable, by addressing the drivers of energy costs, and by developing innovative policy and programs that help people to improve the efficiency of their homes and access the benefits of renewables and new energy technologies.

The EECC team has recently been funded by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) to pilot an Energy Brokerage Service, which will assist low-income and vulnerable Victorian households change to a more affordable energy market offer.

Main responsibilities of the role:   

The Project Manager will manage specified Energy, Equity and Climate Change projects including the planning, implementation, stakeholder engagement, contract management and reporting. The Project Manager will initially work on the Energy Brokerage Service and will work closely with the Senior Manager (Principal Research Fellow), Energy, Equity and Climate Change.

To meet the selection criteria, candidates will require:

Essential

  • relevant tertiary qualifications, or comparable expertise
  • demonstrated well developed management skills, including experience in:
    • managing projects, contracts, and project reporting,
    • stakeholder engagement and
    • staff management.
  • demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems, including the capacity to devise, deliver and monitor appropriate solutions
  • well-developed organisational and time management skills with the ability to plan workload, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • demonstrated ability to work in a changing, fast-paced environment to tight deadlines
  • demonstrated highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate ideas to diverse audiences in a clear and persuasive manner
  • adaptable with the ability to identify and respond to new ideas, and change priorities without undue discomfort
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • record of working well with a team as well as working autonomously
  • open to direction
  • understanding of, and empathy with, the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
  • expertise and competency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook

Desirable

  • experience in the design and implementation of innovative customer focused projects
  • knowledge and experience working on energy affordability or in a customer focused role in the community sector or energy industry
  • demonstrated understanding of low-income and vulnerable Victorian households’ challenges in the retail energy market or other competitive markets.
  • demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, collecting data for research projects
  • demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written reports.

This is a full time 12 month maximum term position working 38 hours per week.

Salary will be in the range of $85,000 to $90,000 per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.
