Family Relationship Centres (FRC) are funded by the Commonwealth government to strengthen and assist families and provide support through family separation. Core services provided by the Centres include assessment, information provision, referral and Family Dispute Resolution. Relationships Australia (NSW) operates FRC's in Bathurst, Penrith, Blacktown, Northern Beaches, Macquarie Park and Sydney City (CBD).

We have an opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative individual for a dual role of Information & Referral Officer/Family Advisor to join our team based in Sydney City Centre. If you have a background working with families with complex needs and separated families and have a passion for making a positive social impact through the work you do, this could be the right role for you.

About the role

Some of the responsibilities of the successful candidates will include:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive referral database;
  • Provide Information & Referral to the staff of the Sydney Registry of the Family & Federal Circuit Courts and any parents accessing the court requiring assistance;
  • Providing professional telephone and face-to-face client services including;
    • safety screening;
    • providing needs assessments;
    • case management;
  • Participating in community events and interagency meetings;
  • Being part of a tight-knit dedicated team of Family Advisors who deliver quality services to families with complex needs and separated families.
  • Participate in other service provision within the service as required, including the facilitation of educational groups and seminars. This includes programs such as Kids in Focus.

About the successful candidate

This is a full time position working 5 days per week, some after-hours work will be required. The successful candidate will work 3 days a weeks as Information & Referral Officer and 2 days a week as Family Advisor.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree or diploma in social work, counselling, psychology, welfare or health related services;
  • Experience in the human services environment in working directly with clients (families and Children)who may be experiencing significant crises, domestic violence or separation;
  • Demonstrable skills in client assessment, engagement and awareness of issues relating to client safety, confidentiality and the requirements of relevant legislation (Care and Protection of Children Act, Family Law Act and Privacy Act);
  • Excellent Customer service skill with the ability to deal with a wide variety of enquiries for Clients/ stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in the use of IT for data entry and record keeping and communication;
  • Excellent written / verbal skills - a basic level of counselling skills will be well regarded;
