The Organisation:

Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and / or recovering from  abuse. Youth Off The Streets supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and / or emotional abuse.

It is our goal that these young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full-time or part-time job in hand.

 

The Role:

The primary purpose of this position is to work with youth at risk and address the incidence of youth crime and community safety in the Bourke and surrounding areas through Outreach programs. Additional responsibilities of the position include addressing learning capabilities, addressing the rate of youth crime in the community and having the ability to provide an awareness of the importance of community safety.

 

You will work within clearly defined guidelines to identify and develop mechanisms for local youth engagement which facilitates youth empowerment within a community development framework. You will help setup and run the evening program with trainees, volunteers and community people. You will utilise your skills and knowledge to assist vulnerable youth to engage and access the services and programs offered by Youth Off The Streets by providing Outreach Services. The program also offers social and wellbeing groups including sporting, craft, music, education assistance and BBQ’s.

 

Whilst we are looking to fill the positions on full time hours (38 per week), for the right candidate we are prepared to consider applications for employment on a part time basis. There is the possibility of an extension past July 2019. Hours of work are on a roster basis with some evenings and occasional weekend work.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Trailer preparation and maintenance of trailer resources
  • Assist in all aspects of running the Outreach program with staff, volunteers and community.
  • Building rapport with the young people
  • Helping to identify strengths, assets, needs and gaps within the community
  • Actively engage in planning and running of appropriate programs for vulnerable young people
  • Undertake learning activities on days/times that have been allocated by the Youth Off The Streets as well as attending classes
  • Collaborate with community-based services to promote optimal service provision for vulnerable young people
  • Promote the program in the community
  • Maintain data collection for reporting purposes as required
  • Participate in evaluation and ongoing monitoring of Outreach through strategic planning process

 

Essential Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • You must be committed to completing a Certificate IV in Youth Work within 12 months whilst working
  • Have or willing to apply for a Working With Children Check
  • Willing to complete a National Criminal Check
  • Have a genuine passion for working with and assisting youths
  • Current driver’s license
  • Have an understanding of adolescent development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating confidence in engaging with young people

 

Desirable Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Reside in the local area and have an awareness of the local demographic and issues
  • Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
