Based at Parramatta, the purpose of this very rewarding role is to enable and provide support to people seeking asylum who have no access to support services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the relevant Program Managers are supported and kept well-informed in a timely manner of emerging demographic shifts relating to people seeking asylum by attending the relevant program meetings and industry forums.
- Conduct a thorough client assessment to ensure that the services provided meet the client’s needs.
- Attend Anglicare Community Hubs, Fresh Food sites and Mobile Pantry sites and establish strong links with appropriate external services, organisations and groups to ensure that staff are informed and supported with cultural knowledge and language assistance to achieve best possible outcomes for clients including internal and external referral.
- Provide information sessions on Anglicare Community Services, referral pathways and Cultural knowledge of targeted cohort to ensure that parishes are supported with ministry development/capabilities to serve and engage effectively with people seeking asylum.
- Conduct promotional activities to ensure that Anglicare’s support (material & advocacy) for people seeking asylum is well known within leading Community and Diocesan partnerships.
Minimum Requirements:
- Qualifications in Social work, Community Welfare or other relevant area (desirable)
- Experience working with people seeking asylum
- Fluent in a community language such as Farsi, Tamil and Arabic
- Well-developed understanding of issues faced by people seeking asylum in Australia
