Purpose of position:- To provide initial support and therapy services to young children with a developmental delay or disability as a part of their engagement with Early Childhood Early Intervention under the NDIS.
- The role is designed to provide:
- Information, guidance and practical therapeutic assistance to families and young children with developmental delay or disability.
- Therapeutic intervention designed to enable young children to attain developmental milestones, with the aim of delaying or deferring development of lifelong disability.
The introduction of the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is the greatest change to the disability sector in Australia in decades. UnitingCare Community has been selected as the Community Partner with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) in the roll out of the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) service in Townsville, Mackay and Toowoomba.

The ECEI approach has been designed to identify the type and level of early intervention support a child needs to achieve their best outcome. A family centred approach that supports greater inclusion in mainstream settings and builds capacity of a child and their family is proven to have positive effects in early childhood intervention.
In this pivotal role, your demonstrated ability to work closely with children developmental delay and disability and their families to meet positive, outcome focused goals and milestones will be highly regarded. Reporting to the UnitingCare Community Team Leader, you will have the opportunity to be part of a like-minded and cohesive team, who are committed to making a difference in the lives of these children and their families.
Through the implementation of the early childhood early intervention approach your guidance and support to enable families to make the best decisions for their children will be crucial to the success of this service.
An experienced Paediatric Therapist based in Townsville, you will have:
• Recognised qualifications and experience in therapeutic paediatric service delivery. This might include: Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Psychology.
• Proven ability to establish meaningful relationships with young children and their families.
• Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of group programmes that support families to recognise their children's full potential
• High levels of written and interpersonal communication skills.
• A genuine desire to work in this field.
• Demonstrated success in providing therapeutic intervention designed to enable young children to attain developmental milestones, with the aim of deferring development of lifelong disability.
• An ability to collaboratively work with key stakeholders to deliver desired outcomes
• A current driver’s license, Positive Notice from Disability Services and Blue Card
Remuneration: base salary + super+ salary packaging
